Phone calls possible with Windows 8?

Long Zheng, over at IStartedSomething.com, has put together a overnice example to show that Windows viii slate devices will have the ability to brand phone calls.  The first slice of testify is front and heart in the moving picture above, which comes from a slide show on Windows 8 live tiles at the last day of BUILD 2022 in Anaheim.  One of the sample tiles is clearly labeled "Missed Calls," consummate with a phone icon and time-stamped Contact names.

If that weren't plenty, a freeze frame of a Contact in the People Hub of a Windows 8 demo video (beneath) shows the pick to call the person'south mobile telephone.  This denotes that whatever calling functionality is more than than just VOIP-based.

Terminal, simply certainly not least, we have some hardware evidence.  Those fortunate enough to nourish BUILD received a slate loaded with Windows 8, along with another goodies.  WithinWindows.com'southward Rafael Rivera broke downwardly the specs of the device and institute it contained an Option wireless chip, which not merely controls the WiFi, GPS and 3G, only alos supports cellular telephony using quad-band 2G and peta-band 3G.

We know that Skype will exist a large office of Microsoft'southward operating systems going frontwards, but the power to make mobile phone calls also is a pretty handy feature.  More interestingly, Zheng points out that this functionality could indicate that the Windows viii kernal may in fact be used as the foundation for future Windows Phone versions.
